Victoria—one of Australia’s most multicultural and inclusive states—has long championed youth cultural expression and arts education. As part of the “Double-Seven Cultural & Arts Festival,” the Multicultural Youth Art Exhibition opened at the Creative Asia Art Centre in the World Trade Centre (WTC) Melbourne. Centered on the theme “Where I’m From, Where I’m Going,” the exhibition showcases original works by 200+ young artists from across Victoria, exploring cultural identity, family bonds, and future aspirations.
At the start of the event, Ms. Sheryl from the Creative Asia Art Centre warmly welcomed all guests, paid respects to Australia’s First Peoples, and extended special thanks to distinguished attendees as well as the arts organisations and mentors who have long supported youth arts education. She underscored the importance of cultural diversity and inclusion.
Dialogue Across Cultures：
From a youth perspective, the exhibition presents heartfelt interpretations of “mother tongue,” “mother,” and “hometown,” opening a deep conversation between culture and the inner self.
Professional Curation
More than a visual feast, the exhibition is a profound dialogue of culture and spirit. Mr. Kevan, curator at Le Grange Gallery, shared the curatorial vision and the stories behind the works. Through imaginative and emotionally rich pieces, the young artists express respect for their “mother tongue,” “mother,” and “hometown,” revealing how cultural heritage is taking root in the next generation.
Guest Remarks
At the opening ceremony, Ms. Yijia Wang, Cultural Consul of the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Melbourne, spoke about the exhibition’s significance in promoting Chinese culture and fostering China–Australia cultural exchange.
Melbourne City Councillor Cr Gladys Liu also attended in support, affirming the positive role of art in youth development, social inclusion, and cultural co-creation, and noting that a multicultural city like Melbourne needs more diverse voices.
Finally, Johnny, Chair of Artspie Australia, emphasised the importance of sustaining multicultural arts education and thanked all partner arts organisations and educational institutions for their strong support of the event.
Recognitions & Awards
All participating young artists received Certificates of Participation issued by the organisers, acknowledging their artistic creation and cultural expression and opening more opportunities for artistic growth and achievement. In addition, Art Guidance Contribution Awards were presented to the guiding teachers and educational institutions, in appreciation of their professional and caring support for the children’s artistic development.
